She also leads the Music Council, where students can actively participate in organizing events and shaping the music curriculum. Additionally, she is involved in a program called Mentor-Mentee (M&M), where expert students provide guidance and support to aspiring musicians.
In Ms. Umachandran’s classroom, there are some fun traditions. Every day starts with the Song of the Day where students can listen to a song of any genre, artist, or year. This activity allows students to explore various musical styles and discover new favourites. Another tradition is the Community Circle where she engages her students with interesting questions. For example, she might ask if they would like to have a pet pig, or a teacup pig.

Even so, her favourite subject to teach is music, as she finds immense joy in helping her students explore their musical talents and develop a deep appreciation for the art form.
With three years of teaching experience under her belt, Ms. Umachandran brings a vibrant energy to the classroom. When she’s not teaching, you can find her enjoying her favourite hobby: kayaking. She loves the tranquility of being on the water and finds it to be the perfect way to recharge and find inspiration.

She prompts them to explore how music can be used for self-care, reminding them that certain genres and songs can evoke specific emotions.
