The North Park Drama Ensemble performed the one-act play called “The Audition” on February 19th, 2024 at our school. The play was about a group of students auditioning for the play “The Chorus Line” at their school’s drama department.

Mr. Torrance, played by Harman Ghuman, accompanied by the Stage Manager, played by Avery Vanderkwaak, held auditions for up-and-coming actors. Carrie, played by Richelle Raterta, Soleil, played by Piper Jones, and Elizabeth, played by Trisha Tyagi, were exceptionally brilliant actors that portrayed an incredible amount of depth and emotion. The storyline also followed the family drama behind these kids. The two mother characters, played by Chevonne Thomas and Navjot Dhamee, had big ambitions for their children, putting a lot of pressure on the characters and the actors alike.

One student said “I thought it was very emotional and had a lot of depth. I feel like everyone played their role very well, and even though the play was short, it had a lot to say.”

The rehearsal process started out on a tender note. Ms. Cooper, a former drama teacher at North Park, started the play but unfortunately moved schools. The space was open for a new director and supervisor. So Mme. Shomrony and Ms. Umachandran graciously took over the play and led it up to the day of performance.

The cast and director stayed back at school for rehearsal multiple times a week, every week, for four months. Finally, it was time to put on the show! The cast put on a beautiful performance for North Park and brought the community together! They also competed at the National Theatre School DramaFest at Woodlands S.S. with this play.

Due to the hard work and dedication of Mme. Shomrony, Ms. Umachandran, and the entire cast and crew, the play was given two awards. One won by Piper Jones for Outstanding Supporting Lead, and another for Outstanding Production for The Audition. The latter qualified North Park for the regionals competition later this month!

Congratulations and good luck to Mme. Shomrony and Ms. Umachandran, as well as the cast: Harman Ghuman, Avery Vanderkwaak, Richelle Raterta, Piper Jones, Trisha Tyagi, Karina Patel, Ella Tsai, Berenice Jones, Simone Earle, Maryrose Rimando, Lucas Sanchez, Mercy Anthony, Harchanan Kaur, Navjot Dhamee, Victory Agbontean, Asher Djorgee, Ashley Berretty, Martin Geisbacher, Chevonne Thomas, and more!
