Each year, the beginning of spring marks the historic celebration of Holi in many South Asian countries. Although rooted in Hinduism, Holi is celebrated across the world by millions of people. A celebration of love, happiness, and the victory of good over evil, Holi holds significant cultural and religious importance for the South Asian diaspora around the world.

On March 25th 2024, North Park Secondary School celebrated the festival of colour at the Holi Colour Run. Powdered colours decorated the school grounds like a canvas, displaying the pride and celebration of North Park’s sizable South Asian student population. The air filled with lively music, colour, and laughter as students of all different backgrounds took part in the colour run, adorned with bright colours all over. Many teachers also chose to take part in the colour extravaganza, as they celebrated the festival transcending cultural barriers, celebrating love and inclusivity.

The sparkling success of this year’s colour run also opens the opportunity for other festivals to be acknowledged and celebrated to represent the tapestry of diversity at North Park. Fostering an inclusive environment while promoting deeper cultural understanding is at the heart of North Park’s values and the Holi Colour Run was an exemplar of how the vibrant and diverse spirit of our dear school manifests itself.
