North Park’s senior boys basketball team played against Applewood Heights Axemen on February 26, 2024 in the North Park gymnasium.

The boys were practicing hard behind the scenes before the game started, and their skills were made evident by the way they were shooting hoop after hoop. The team was super hyped and full of energy as they entered the court. Their enthusiasm continued into the game, and they started off strong by scoring the first points against Applewood Heights. The crowd cheered them on and chanted to show their support to their peers during the game.

Ms. McKenley, a gym teacher at North Park, was interviewed and asked how the team felt before the game. She answered, “Before the game, the team was focused and determined. We were well aware of the importance of the match. There was a sense of quiet confidence among us, knowing that we had prepared well and were ready to give our best effort”.

Throughout the entire game, the communication and coordination between the team members was incredible. They scored point after point and the crowd’s cheers continued to get louder. The audience had mixed emotions on the game’s outcome and who would take home the win. Ms. McKenley added, “During the game, our team’s confidence grew as we executed our game plan and worked together! We faced moments of pressure, but all players remained composed and relied on each other”.

As the game went on, the scores of the teams progressed and at the end it was won by the North Park Vikings. North Park won 51- 42 against Applewood Heights. 

“After the game, we felt proud of our performance. Winning our first playoff game brought a sense of accomplishment and joy to the team. We celebrated our victory together, knowing that our hard work had paid off. Overall, the Applewood playoff game was a testament to our teamwork, determination, and resilience. It was a memorable experience for the team and NPSS!”, said Ms. McKenley.
