On May 2nd, thirty-one North Park students traveled to Anaheim, California to compete in the most competitive level of competition that DECA offers. Along with the students who qualified for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC), many students went as a part of the Leadership Development Academy program at ICDC. Event finalists prepared written presentations and wrote business reports, while others developed their skills in role-plays and business vocabulary. Not to mention, all of the North Park DECA advisors also attended (Ms. Fiocco, Mrs. Blazina, Mr. Scorcia, and Ms. McKay). In addition, North Park DECA was one of the largest chapters that qualified for ICDC in all of Ontario!
This year’s ICDC was a mesmerizing experience for all the students that went. It was a week-long trip from April 25th – May 2nd and the students had a great time experiencing the difference and getting the edge. At ICDC, students learned many things and met many new, amazing people. During the first few days of ICDC, students spent time training and practicing their presentations. The next few days, students participated in the event, competing and presenting to judges as well as writing a multiple choice exam. Competition at ICDC was great. From Ontario, thirteen people won first place, nine won second place, and eight won third place. Many of the qualifiers for ‘Top 20’ from North Park were called onto the stage as well! Aside from competing, students also enjoyed themselves at Disneyland and also the Santa Monica Pier, where they partook in everything Anaheim had to offer.
In conclusion, ICDC was an amazing time for students, allowing them to create ever-lasting memories and meet many new people. They all had a great time in California!
