From May 9th to May 10th, HOSA had the Spring Leadership Conference at Metro Toronto Convention Centre. This competition was open to students across Canada, with winners advancing to the international competition. Participants were able to attend workshops and seminars outside of the competition. Workshops included identifying medical emergencies, how to fix and wrap dislocations and fractures, and CPR. Many students enjoyed their experience despite being nervous about their presentation.

The events at the competition varied. For one event, Hetanshi Mistry prepared and presented a persuasive research poster to a judge. She shared her thoughts on the event, saying “I honestly thought it was lots of fun. At first, I was just nervous because I had to present early on the first day, but it went well. And I got to enjoy the rest of the two days afterwards so it definitely worked out!”

Mistry continued with how she had fun despite the stressful environment, and how she was able to learn a lot. “The workshops were hosted by current medical students so it was nice to be able to learn things from younger people, especially since they were able to make it entertaining. It was a great chance to experience something different and honestly, I would love to do it again!”

Ms. Skiba said this was the best the school has done in many years. A team of grade 9s in medical innovation was able to get third place and make it to internationals. Additionally, the bio-medical team managed to get 4th place and three other teams were able to get top ten. Their hard work paid off, so congratulations to all the teams.
