Beloved music teacher Ms. Lee said she loves Daniel Caesar, Frank Ocean, Coldplay, and especially Graduation by Kanye. She teaches all the music courses, as well as Careers. Born in South Korea, she moved to Toronto when she was in the seventh grade and has lived there ever since. Outside of school, Ms. Lee enjoys playing softball, and she did so religiously before the pandemic. She also works as a musician for the Canadian military, and even though it is a job, she says it feels like a hobby.
In terms of music genre, Ms. Lee doesn’t listen to mainstream music, but ballads from the 80s and 90s. If not a music teacher, she would be a guidance counsellor, perhaps due to her friendly personality. Her students can count on her being there when they need someone. She puts her entire class on hold if she feels that they are stressed. She even takes her classes on walks and discussion circles. She is very active in the school community as she runs both concert band as well as music council.
Finally, she shared a message for students: “Progress doesn’t happen without making mistakes and everyone doesn’t get to the place where they want to be without struggle and failure, so just keep going and don’t give up.”
