Culture Day was celebrated on May 3rd, with a dance performance in the commons. The surprise show was planned by the dance team. The dancers got ready in their positions as the commons started to fill with students and teachers. Before the performance, the team felt ready and confident to show off their dance skills.

Dancer Anushka Malik said, “Before performing, I felt very excited because we put a lot of work and determination into preparing this and I was excited to share it with the school. I was also really nervous and unsure because two weeks isn’t enough to make a perfect seven minute performance and I didn’t want to mess up in front of the school.”

Another dancer, Tavlin Kaur said, “ [I am] Very excited! Definitely a little nervous but excited for everyone to see the show that we prepared so hard for.” With that, the show started off with cheers from the crowd.

Throughout the whole performance, much applause and cheers were heard. Viewers were shouting out their peers’ names to show their support. The dance team performed 5 types of dances. They started off with a trio performing a variety of K-pop dances and ended with loud cheering for the solo performance of Anushka Malik. Then, they switched over to another trio dance of Jazz. Next, they switched over to a duo Hip-Hop performance. This got the viewers bobbing their heads along with the music and cheering their peers on. They finished with a Bollywood performance which was also performed with good synchronization from the whole team. Looking at the performance and the reaction of the viewers, it showed that the team worked very hard to be prepared and executed the moves very well.

Tavlin from the dance team had this to say about their performance: “Probably 10, because sure we did mess up a bit, but I think what matters is that we were able to prepare for the flash mob in such a short time and bring in our commitment to many lunch and after school practices. And it seemed like people enjoyed the show!”

Anushka Malik said, “I’d rate my performance an 8.7/10 because as proud as I am of myself, I did mess up and could’ve done better. As a group, I’d give our performance a 8/10 considering the amount we had to get done in a short time.”
