Karen Bourgon has been shaping young minds for more than 18 years at North Park Secondary School. Although she had planned to study sciences at university, her passion for teaching became obvious in her third year, propelling her to a successful career in education. What she enjoys most about teaching is the wide range of topics she can cover with her pupils, such as politics, philosophy, equity, and law.

It’s not just all of the topics, though. She loves to have the opportunity to get to know new students each semester. One of the most important things Ms Bourgon shares with students is that “it’s never too late to change your mind.” She believes that students should focus on finding fulfillment in what they do rather than limiting themselves to a certain career. Her own journey reflects this same realization.

When she’s not in the classroom, Ms. Bourgon enjoys outdoor activities such as swimming and camping , but she also enjoys snuggling up with a book indoors. She enjoys comedy in all forms, whether it’s a funny TV show, a hilarious movie, or stand-up. She appreciates humor because it draws people together through laughter.

With a passion for both education and life outside the classroom, Mrs. Bourgon is a teacher who inspires her students to follow their interests and find joy in whatever they pursue.
