One of the best movies of the year, Deadpool and Wolverine, was released on July 26th, 2024. It was one of the most anticipated movies this summer. Filming started with a $200 Million budget, the movie raked in a whopping $1.33 Billion worldwide. With Deadpool being acquired by Disney from Fox in 2019, we saw a collaboration between the light-hearted comedy of Deadpool and the aggressive nature of Wolverine. We also saw a crossover from the hit MCU show, “Loki”. Many references were made to the Time Variance Authority(TVA), and scenes are shown where the character is present in the facility.
The movie is full of light-hearted humor, inappropriate jokes, and cheeky comments giving it a R or Adult Rating. I was fortunate enough to have been able to watch the movie when it came out without spoilers, and it was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. It was peak comedy, but it wasn’t just comedy. There were a bunch of emotions thrown out and with the talented acting from everyone involved, it’s safe to say that everyone felt them through the screen. I’m sure everyone would agree with me when I say this is a huge turning point for Marvel. After Avengers: Endgame, the MCU had a decline in the quality of their movies and TV shows because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Marvel wanted to give out more content faster. They were giving out more content at a lower enjoyment rate. Deadpool and Wolverine are both well-known characters with amazing reputations to their own name and some of my favorite superheroes so acquiring the rights to them may be a step up for the company.
Marvel hints at their future movies in every movie by either an end scene after the credits or a funny little cameo throughout the movie, and Marvel did not fail to disappoint. The foreshadowing in this movie was peak. Even though it was only for a few seconds, we saw Thor holding Deadpool in his arms as he cried. The end credits scene took a bit of a wait to arrive but it made for a good one.
This movie had big names like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Channing Tatum as Remy Lebeau or the Gambit, and a special appearance from Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively as Ladypool. Other cameo appearances obviously had recordings of Thor, Son of Odin, played by none other than Chris Hemsworth.
In my opinion, I would rate it a solid 9/10. It was the perfect mixture of emotions, cameos, and surprising twists, but it did have a lot of gore and blood. I personally didn’t mind it, but I could feel at some point it was overplayed.
