Z-Club, a women empowerment club at the high school level from the Zonta international organization, is reintroduced to North Park Secondary School for the 2024-2025 school year by a passionate student leader.
“Most of the activities that we do in Z-Club align with Zonta international goals, such as supporting education, raising awareness of gender based violence, and promoting equality,” says Kavi Senthilkumar, the president of Z-Club. Senthilkumar is a grade 11 student leader who felt that Z-Club aligned with her goals and that it was a good platform where she could put her best efforts into creating an impact on the school.
She was able to start Z-Club up again after one year, with the help of a very dedicated staff member. Ms. Pebesma took on the role of being an advisor and the club teacher for Z-Club.
The 16 days of activism is an annual international campaign. The main goal of it is promoting gender equality, with this year’s theme being working to end gender-based violence.
For this campaign, Z-club will make its own contribution by setting up a fundraiser to support a women’s shelter. There will be volunteers collecting donations in the form of hygiene products or money in the commons for all 16 days. These donations will then be sent to the shelter to help women who have been directly affected by or are survivors of domestic violence.
“It’s really refreshing to see how Z-club implements the 16 days of activism at school in a way that everyone can get involved in,” said Aishani Jeyakanthan, a Zonta executive.
As a final thought, Senthilkumar shares how the club is making a change:
“NPSS Z-club is standing up for a world free from gender-based violence. We continue to acknowledge and advocate for gender equality, hoping to make a real difference.”
Z-Club asks that you show your support through donations and spreading awareness.
