The DECA regionals returned to North Park Secondary School on November 23rd, 2024. Our school got to host the competition for the second time this year. DECA regionals is a contest held every school year for students to present their business ideas and plans to judges. It is a way for them to improve their ability to pitch or showcase business ideas. This year alone, North Park has won six medals and over ninety ribbons in the two competitions combined.
Navjot Jaswal, the student president of North Park DECA, oversaw and managed the planning and execution of this regional event. When asked how it went, he said, “I had a blast meeting people from around Ontario.” He described how he loved giving a speech at the awards ceremony and seeing the dedication of all the students who volunteered.
When asked if there was anything he would change, he said that there was nothing. “No matter how well you plan something, last-minute changes will always tend to arrive as people have to adapt to circumstances that are given to them.” The issues that arose during the planning of the competition were minor and nothing that couldn’t have been overcome. He said that it went smoothly, and perfectly, and that he had a fun time doing it.
An anonymous interviewee, not from North Park, stated that while he did not win, it was a fun time to showcase the talents that he’s acquired. When asked if he had any issues with the event, he said he didn’t have any and remarked that the event felt strong and appeared to run smoothly. He said that he hopes to come back in the future and win.
Overall, I offer congratulations to the North Park students who won the ribbons and medals. DECA regionals is a great way to showcase North Park’s business muscles, the subject that we are known for most, and the ability to host the prestigious DECA competition will continue to reinforce this belief.
