Unplug Waste, founded by North Park students Prabhleen Arora, Jeevan Dhindsa, and Neha Mehmi, is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness on efficiently reusing and recycling gadgets.
Why? Well, e-waste is the disregard of any electronic equipment or appliances. It accounts for 70% of our total toxic waste and, if not properly recycled, can emit various harmful pollutants into the air, damaging the environment.
Students in the group have been able to contribute by writing blogs about how e-waste impacts them to increase awareness of Unplug Waste. They can be seen distributing leaflets at school. They may also be seen outside handing out posters to neighbouring electronics stores or businesses to raise awareness in their community.
According to Mehmi and Arora, the co-founders, they intend to host a small seminar and an electronics drive in the future where students can donate any gadgets or appliances they may not be using. These items will then be sent to an organization that recovers any valuable resources and either reuses them or distributes them to the less fortunate. If Interested in contributing to the cause or have any inquiries, you can contact them @unplugwaste on Instagram.
