In my opinion, the elevator should be reserved for those who are physically unable to get up the stairs. There is no necessity for you to take the elevator if you do not have to. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to wait for a group of able-bodied people to go upstairs in the elevator while I stand around, in pain from having to stand on one leg on my crutches. It is selfish. It is also a waste of time for those who need it, having to wait for everyone who doesn’t need it to go up. Personally, I believe it is unsafe taking the elevator if you do not have a condition that requires you to take it. Imagine a kid like me is on crutches, extremely late to class, and has to wait for the elevator. However, since they are late, they try to go up the stairs, and then they fall and get hurt even more. This would all happen because there were people who could have easily walked up the stairs but decided to take the elevator. A little bit ago, many schools required you to have a key in order to access the elevator. I believe we should go back to this to decide who can take the elevator and who cannot. It is not only dangerous to those who require it, but also an extreme waste of time. In fact if you can walk up the stairs it’s probably faster than waiting for the elevator. So next time you are about to step in the elevator, and you see someone who CLEARLY needs it more than you, do not be arrogant. Take the stairs, exercise is good for you.
