The servery is highly regarded among all students for its incredible meals at cheap prices. You can ask any student at our school, and they will have endless things to say about the food from the servery. And now, finally, it is being decorated with an award fit for such quality service: a Michelin star
What is a Michelin star you may ask? The Michelin star is the highest honour any restaurant can be awarded, for only the best of the best earns the stars. As Michelin’s own website states, “A star: A cuisine of great finesse [is] worth the effort. Two stars: Exceptional cuisine [is] worth the detour. Three stars: Unique cuisine [is] worth the trip”. Hundreds of anonymous food reviewers employed by Michelin rate and review restaurants across the world. Although we will never know for sure who this mysterious servery reviewer was, several students suspect it may have been Jacques Revue, the six foot tall exchange student from France with the full handlebar mustache.
Another question you may be asking is if the Michelin stars have any connection to the Michelin tire company, and the answer is that they are connected, for they are the same company. As a ploy to sell more tires, the Michelin star review was created in 1926, with the idea that if people had restaurants they wanted to go to, they would drive more, and in turn need tires. It may raise the question of whether a company which specializes in tires actually knows anything about what makes good food. However, their knowledge on tires and rubber helps them perfectly understand the intricacies of the servery’s food, as there really is little difference between either product.
We tried three items off of the official North Park servery food menu to find out if it is truly deserving of the prestigious Michelin star. First off is the classic North Park poutine, which is undercooked fries smothered in vegetarian gravy and garnished with shreds of mozzarella. It tastes exactly as good as that sounds. Second is the macaroni and cheese, which makes the bold culinary decision to refrain from any seasoning, and saves the meal from any bad flavours through having no flavour at all. Third and final dish is the cheesy garlic bread, which is good as it is simple. The best thing on the servery menu truly is bread with cheese.
It is great that the servery is getting the commendations it deserves for providing such delicious, enriching meals. Unfortunately, it’s expected that the incredibly reasonable prices will rise due to the Michelin star. However, the servery has always prided itself on incredible quality for cheap prices, so let’s celebrate this incredible award for our school instead of worrying over could-bes.
