On December 20th, 2024, our Senior Boys Volleyball team played two amazing and intense games with a team of the school’s alumni players. This took place during the school’s first buyout. Although the senior team lost both games, they played extremely well, making it to a victory by two points on their first set and, scoring nine points on the second set.
Many students attended the buyout and had an unforgettable time watching the games and participating in the half-time event, the balloon pop relay. Teachers and staff were also able to reunite with some former students of their own. Overall, students, teachers, and alumni were all excited to be part of the event and be able to end the year on a high note.
One standout alumni player was Jovan Singh, whose powerful spikes left students in shock. When asked about his thoughts on coming back and seeing the school again, he had the following to say, “It’s an amazing feeling. I had some of my greatest memories here as a student athlete and honestly it’s one of the only memories that have stayed with me forever. Coming back is honestly a great feeling. I’m very happy to see that the kids are still playing sports and sticking with it.”
Another alumni player who stood out to everyone for his amazing jumps and serving abilities, Akshay Patel, was asked the same question. Patel said, “There’s a lot of new people and new staff … but the school spirit is still the same. Everyone was loud, they all had a good time. The volleyball team looks like they got some potential and they’ll do great.”
Lastly, Ashley Berretty, who recently graduated high school said, “It’s great coming back to North Park. I love it so much, and the community is so amazing, and it’s nostalgic.”
The event concluded with the students getting the chance to speak to some of the alumni players about their past experiences along with lots of amazing pictures of the senior team and alumni team. Before teachers and staff made their farewells to the alumni students, they all played one final game to wrap up the end of the year.
The senior team put up an amazing match with the alumni team and was even able to catch the eyes of some alumni players. Continuing on with their athletic journey, our student athletes will continue to thrive in challenging environments and show our school spirit to the world.
