On Friday, Feb. 20, the cafeteria wasn’t serving just lunch; it was dishing out revenge one pie at a time. Students had the opportunity to donate money in exchange for seeing their favorite, or least favorite, teachers get pied in the face. The event was organized by the Grade 11 leadership class and was a fundraiser to support other Black History Month events around the school.

Many teachers volunteered to be covered in whipped cream. Students lined up with change in their pockets, ready to see their teachers take a pie to the face. “I can’t wait to see Mr. Luchak covered in whipped cream,” said one student who donated a toonie. Cheers and laughter filled the cafeteria as the first pie landed in Mr. Luchak’s face.

Mr. Durnwald took multiple pies to the face. “I didn’t think I would get pied that many times,” he said laughing. “I spent the next two hours with whipped cream in my beard.” Originally, the plan was to use shaving cream, but teachers were relieved that it was switched to whipped cream instead. To add, Mr. Shelly showed up late, but that didn’t save him. “Yummy!” he said, licking his lips after the first pie hit him.

The fundraiser was a huge success, bringing students and staff together for a good laugh. The event achieved its goal, raising $114.95 altogether. The money will go toward holding more Black History Month events, keeping the fun going all month long. “This event was a great way to bring people together,” said a Grade 11 leadership student. “It was a lot of fun, and we didn’t expect such a big turnout,” the student added.

With so much excitement, positive feedback, and fundraising success, students are already looking forward to next year’s pie-throwing event. However, some teachers might want to think twice before signing up again!
