On May 4th, 2024, the school cafeteria transformed into a battlefield, where tables were turned, chairs were flipped and students went head-to-head in friendly competition. On May 4th, 2025, the Model United Nations club hosted its very first crisis night, where students faced off in a heated debate.

Each student was assigned a mascot, whether it be the Kool-Aid Man or Chuck. E Cheese, and debated on issues provided by the directors of the committee. The background guide explored how industry mascots are not just friendly inanimate objects, but powerful masterminds controlling humans and major corporations behind the scenes. For the next three hours, all 40 mascots had to work together to keep their secret under wraps, as the FBI grew increasingly suspicious and searched for the secret league of five mascots, hidden among those who had come together with one simple goal, to take over the mascot world and reshape the food industry.

Each delegate worked tirelessly to advocate for their corporation; some spilled their guts, others rapped their message, danced their way through negotiations, or shed tears. A few, though, took a dark turn, offering to team up with the crisis backrooms to eliminate their competition. However, even when chaos continued to persist, some delegates managed to marry their dream mascot and form new alliances, all while Justin Bieber played softly in the background.

In the end, despite the pleas, the tears, and the desperate efforts, the delegates failed to keep their secret and uncover the 5 hidden mascots among them, causing the food industry to crumble and their powers to fade. Despite the sad ending, some amazing delegates were awarded for their efforts in the crisis committee.

Devin E., who portrayed Count Chocula, was awarded Best Delegate. Outstanding Delegate went to Dhruv Kumar and Arpit Kumar for their portrayal of Chuck E. Cheese. Best Junior Delegate was awarded to Nitgun Singh for his representation of the Rice Krispies brand. Finally, Best Position Paper was awarded to Harsha E. and Parneet Bains for their thoughtful work as the Red and Yellow M&M’s.

Thanks to Ms. Johnston and Mr. Scorica, the crisis night ended up being a success and allowed for the MUN community within North Park to come together. With that being said, MUN 2025 has officially come to an end. As we prepare for summer, NPSSMUN Secretary-Generals, Shaurya Khera and Jeevan Dhindsa, have stated that they are extremely honoured to have been a part of the MUN community for the past few years and are extremely grateful that they were the first to establish crisis nights within North Park, an initiative they hope “will continue to challenge delegates and foster dynamic debate for years to come.”

On that note, be sure to join Model UN next year, so you can also grow, learn and debate and continue to carry the legacy forward.
