The wait was finally over; prom night had arrived! On June 6, 2025, at the Pearson Convention Centre, grade 12 graduates attended their prom, to celebrate their high school journey together.

The prom theme, a night beyond a tale, was revealed months in advance, in January, to allow for students to have enough time to find outfits that fit the theme. Students bought dresses and suits weeks before in preparation, with elaborate promposals occurring daily the days leading up to prom.

Grade 12 student Sriya Sikha said, “I had a lot of fun at prom. The food was delicious and I loved having a caricature drawn of me.” The prom committee brought in two artists that drew silly portraits of the seniors, known as caricatures. Food was a big surprise for many attendees this year, as previous school dances were not known for their amazing dishes. Navleen Bola said “the DJ could have been a bit better, because he kept playing the entirety of the songs, and no one was expecting the food to be good, so that was a surprise.”

Not everything went smoothly though, as high school students are not known for being rule-followers. Although it is against the school board’s code of conduct, some students seemed to be under the influence of substances. Rumours spread about possible breathalyzer tests being conducted at the door, leaving many students nervous. This was not the case, as it would have been in violation of the students’ constitutional rights according to an Ontario Supreme Court ruling in 2015.

As the night went on, prom royalty was announced. Two students were voted for in a Google form sent out to students beforehand. After winning, Prithvi Krishna and Amryl Ajith danced together to officially open the dance floor to everyone else.

“The best part was definitely dressing up and seeing everyone look good,” said Ayraah Senthilkaruniyan. “I liked how the environment was laid back. At one point, I was dancing with Ms. Fiocco, and she felt like my bestie instead of my grade 10 business teacher who yelled at me,” she claimed.

As the music played and dinner was served, graduating seniors made the most of this unforgettable night, and kept the dance floor thundering. Excitement might have been too high, though, as the DJ had to stop the music several times because students were lifting each other on their shoulders and at one point attempted to crowd-surf. It was evident that safety was not a priority for these students.

The evening closed with a slow-dance, where couples and friends alike danced together to a melancholic song, leaving everyone a bit sad about the end. Many students later went to McDonalds to grab a snack, an after-prom to keep the party going, or straight to bed due to exhaustion. It is clear that the class of 2025 knows how to party!
