Tryston Hall-Luckman is someone in the school community who needs no introduction. From his work in Link Crew, the Black Diamonds, being North Park’s 2025 valedictorian, and as president of Student Activity Council (SAC), you would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t know Tryston. He has ingrained himself into the North Park community from not just his club work, but by being a consistent friendly face in the halls.
Outside of school, Tryston passes the time with hobbies such as playing instruments like the electric and acoustic guitar, teaching himself the piano, longboarding, and as he asked, “Is sleeping considered a hobby?..” “…I’m a very strong advocate for naps. I think if you can have at least one power nap a day, your life will be so much better.” However he doesn’t spend all his time napping, as Tryston volunteers at his local church, aiding with their children’s church as a volunteer leader. But that’s not all for his community work, as this year he joined the Hope for Homeless Hygiene nonprofit as their outreach director, which Tryston says, “has been a big focus for me to try and give back to the less fortunate, because I understand the effect that can have on people”.
When asked about some highlights of his time at North Park, he told us, “Prom was really fun, I liked it. I brought my girlfriend, she got to meet some more of my friends, she got to meet all my teachers. It was a great experience for her to kind of see, like, who I’m with daily. I went to her prom, so I got to see her teachers, her friends, stuff like that…” “…I had the opportunity to be a co-president for Link Crew, along with four other students. I was a co-president with Karina Patel, Lucas Sanchez, and Kenisha Goyal. So the four of us, we kind of led Link Crew. That was a great experience. I loved doing that. We kinda took the teacher’s jobs, so it was good to give them a break…” “… I’d say some of the biggest highlights would have to be some of the events that we’ve been running with SAC because it’s like we put in all this work, and to see it executed successfully kind of brings this type of fire in my soul to like, keep on going”.
This is Tryston’s third year with SAC, having been an equity representative in 2023, vice president in 2024, and 2025 SAC president, which has given him valuable experience. “You know typically the first position, apart from our president last year, typically we see that the first position for many students is a grade representative. I was able to be elected as an executive on SAC being the Equity and Inclusion Rep, and honestly, that year was a year of growth for me. I will say the job definitely became a little bit more in depth as years moved on…” “…it was really fun because I was still learning, and I was able to have such a great mentor in Maryrose, that it gave me kind of a blueprint to follow. A blueprint that I still try to follow to this day. She’s a great leader.”
When asked what advice he’d give the next SAC President, Tryston shared, “the biggest advice I’d give my successor is to take this role and be passionate about it. It’s a very important role in school, but don’t take it at face value. Don’t take this role and just say, okay, I’m SAC president. I don’t have to do anything now. There’s all this work that you still have to put in, and all this work that you have to balance. So it’s kind of a two parter, like, be aware of the importance of this role and that passion is what really drives change in this school, and being passionate about this role, and being passionate about how you can change the school is how you’re actually going to see change. And also, time management, please, like, if you’re in grade 12, you’re going to have some very hard classes, and you don’t want to be swamped 24/7. You want to have some alone time. So I say, be passionate about the role and understand that it’s okay to take some breaks”.
There’s a reason writing a proper introduction for Tryston is a challenge, because he has made himself such a recognizable pillar of the North Park community through his hard work and outgoing personality. Tryston is planning on pursuing mechanical engineering at Western University and we at the North Star wish him all the best in his post-secondary pursuits
