Wellness days are important because they increase awareness of the importance of mental well-being among individuals. This event was hosted by the leadership class on May 2, 2025, and took place throughout the day at school to support student and staff wellbeing by providing them opportunities for relaxation, stress reduction, and self-care.

The day began at 8:30 am with hands-on and engaging activities that consisted of slime-making, Just Dance, outdoor movement, meditation, and so much more. Students were able to participate in two activities before the day wrapped up at 11:00 am. All the activities were appropriately designed to help peers connect and take a break from academic stress. “The day was meant to be fun, which it was, as it provided students a space to have a good time at this time of year when it gets very busy, ” exclaimed Puneet Deol, an IBT Grade 11 SAC representative.

Many students and teachers shared their feedback, offering suggestions for improvement next year. “Wellness Day was a nice opportunity for students to explore interests outside the regular curriculum, which was great,” shared Mr. Luchak. “At this stressful time of year, it gave students a chance to relax. Most importantly, it highlighted the importance of wellness and encouraged students to think about what it means to engage in activities that support mental health,” He added, “Such activities can be quite regenerative, especially for our mental health. I do wish there had been more variety in the morning and perhaps shorter sessions — maybe four instead of two activities — to give students more options to try different things.”

Adding to the discussion, Ms. Blazina noted, “I love wellness days, I think they’re great because we don’t have enough days where it’s just a schoolwide event. I enjoyed my wellness when they did the teachers’ activities in the afternoon.”  She continued, “While supervising, I observed that people doing the activities were having a good time, some of them were drawing outside, and the room where they conducted the beads activity – the lighting was cool, and the music was zen”. She also added that the different events that she was looking at seemed great. However, Ms. Blazina also added a suggestion saying that she “would recommend not having it for half a day because not many people show up”.

The day was overall a success and well-received by those who attended. “Slime-making was messy, but my favourite and I’d do it again,” said Krittika Bhateja, a Grade 11 student.

Due to the positive impact that Wellness Day had on students and teachers, more individuals are expected to attend if the event is hosted again next year.
