The Gujarati Student Society (GSS) at North Park Secondary School is a vibrant community that brings individuals together to celebrate culture and tradition. The club was created to promote the Gujarati heritage and bring individuals together to celebrate their culture and connect with their roots. The club holds events to allow students to create long-lasting memories with food, dance, and other shared customs.

From Diwali celebrations and energetic garba to food festivals featuring authentic Gujarati fare like dhokla and thepla, GSS has created a strong school presence. Each event offers a chance for students, whether Gujarati or not, to discover the rich history, language, and heritage of Gujarat.

Vice President, Bhavam Desai shared how the club’s mission goes beyond just celebration.

“We want to create a space where everyone feels welcome,” Bhavam explained. “Our goal is to share Gujarati culture in a way that’s engaging and fun, whether that’s through music, games, or volunteering. It’s not just about tradition—it’s about community.”

The club’s success is evident in its growing membership and the enthusiasm surrounding its events. General member Navya Vyas reflected on his experience joining the group.

“Being part of GSS has helped me connect with people who share similar backgrounds, but it’s also introduced me to so many new friends,” Navya said. “I love that we celebrate our roots while inviting others to be part of it.”

The Gujarati Student Society continues to plan exciting initiatives for the rest of the school year, including a cultural showcase and a Bollywood movie night. With its mix of celebration and service, the club stands as a reminder of how culture can bring people together.
