The Toronto Blue Jays’ 2025 have been nothing short of spectacular, capturing the hearts of all Canadians with their performance this postseason. After advancing to the World Series for the first time in 32 years, Toronto was buzzing with energy and optimism. An exhilarating seven-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers gave us the 2025 World Series champions.

It was game 7 of the ALCS in Toronto, and the Jays were down 3-1 in the 7th inning. With two runners on the bases and George Springer ready to bat, Toronto fans held their breath as he walked up to the plate. Eduard Bazardo threw the pitch, and it was gone! A 381-foot drive to left field put the Jays up 4-3, a lead that took them to the end of the game and the World Series.

It was the Toronto Blue Jays against the LA Dodgers, the defending champs. The Dodgers were led by Shohei Ohtani, someone whom many considered to be the best baseball player in the world. The first two games in Toronto ended in a 1-1 tie in the series. Game 3 featured an unprecedented 18 innings, tying the record for the longest World Series game ever. With the Dodgers taking a 2-1 lead, the Jays had to win the next game, and they did. A 2-2 tie leading up to game 5 meant the match was a crucial game for both teams, but only one would win, and it was Toronto!

“I believe in the Blue Jays; they are going to win it all in game 6,” said Himmat Pannu, a grade 12 student and Blue Jays fan. Game 6 in Toronto was a chance for them to win it all, and they almost did. A lodged ball in the final inning that could have been their chance to win cost them the game. It was a bittersweet moment for fans knowing that the Jays lost, but there would be a game 7 in Rogers Centre to decide it all.

Anticipation filled the air in Toronto. The entire country watched as the Blue Jays got ready to fight for a championship on their home soil. The Jays took an early lead with a 3-run homer from Bo Bichette, but we couldn’t celebrate too early. Ernie Clement later added another run, but the Dodgers slowly caught up, with the Jays up 4-3 at the top of the 9th inning.

It looked like it was going to be over soon. The Jays were up with 2 outs and 2 strikes. They were 1 pitch away from a championship. But Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas had other plans, blasting a game-tying home run into the packed stands. Players and fans were full of disappointment, with the man who caught the ball throwing it back onto the field to show his frustration. The game went into extra innings and remained scoreless until Will Smith launched another solo home run to put the Dodgers up 5-4. Despite Toronto’s final push, Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto closed out the game to seal back-to-back championships for LA.

Emotions of heartbreak filled the stadium. All of their hard work led to a devastating loss. But, even though the final result wasn’t what he had hoped for, the moment went beyond baseball. Across the country, people were gathered in living rooms, bars, and public squares to watch their team fight until the very end. The Jays may have lost the series, but they united a nation. They’ll be back next year to do it all again.
