On December 4th, 2025, students gathered at the Grand Empire Banquet Hall to celebrate a Midnight in Paris-themed semi-formal. The doors opened at 6:30 PM as students of all grades flooded in, dressed up for the annual event. Ticket sales, which had opened nearly a month prior, were $55 for our school’s students and $65 for any guests. The promise of delicious food, entertaining games, dancing, and lifelong memories set the tone for a night that students will cherish for years to come.
This year’s semi-formal theme, A Midnight in Paris, called for blue and gold hues, visible in students’ attire and in the decoration of the hall. The night started off with games such as musical chairs and Guess the Song, in which students participated to win beautiful Eiffel Tower centrepieces that were present on every table. Once the games had concluded, it was time for food to be served.
An expensive menu consisting of shahi paneer, butter chicken, pasta salad, and so much more filled students up before their long night on the dance floor. Desserts and unlimited drinks continued to fuel the lively energy that was packed within the hall. A live DJ made the party come to life once the dance floor opened, playing songs such as “Call Me Maybe,” “Baby,” and “Gasolina” to hype students up.
“I think the music did a really good job at bringing up the energy and creating a vibe, especially when it was time for dancing,” said Bhavini Sacha, a Grade 12 student who attended the event.
Other complementary services were offered to students as well. A photo booth, complete with a backdrop and photo strips, allowed students to capture the moment in a physical memento. A 360-degree camera platform was also available at the event, the perfect tool for creating short video content for social media.
As the event went on, students of all grades enjoyed themselves, free of any school-related stress, even if it was just for one night. The music ended at around 10 PM, signaling the end of the event as everyone got ready to head home. The aftermath of the long night was evident in the noticeable lack of students at school the next day, but a break might have been exactly what everyone needed.
This year’s semi-formal took a lot of careful planning and, of course, wouldn’t have been possible without our Student Activity Council and all the teachers who came together to make this night unforgettable for our students. From the decorations to the food and everything in between, this truly was a night to remember. Paris may be thousands of kilometres away, but for one short-lived evening, a midnight in that beautiful city became a reality for our students.
