The Link Crew leaders, along with Ms. Leca, organized a movie night in the cafeteria, complete with snacks, friends, and a relaxing atmosphere. The event, only for grade 9s, hoped to bring them together and make new friends.

This event took place as an addition to the Orientation Day hosted in September, just before the start of school. The Link Crew leaders and teachers came to an agreement to watch the Lego Batman Movie for the event since it was a lovable and well-known movie.

The movie started off with Link Crew leaders giving the grade 9s some popcorn. The cafeteria was full of an atmosphere of peace and fun. In an interview, Ms. Leca explained the purpose behind the event: “The goal of this event was to provide grade 9s with the opportunity to check in with their Link Crew Leaders as well as to connect with other grade 9s. […] We try to provide social follow-up events like drop-in badminton and movie nights outside of class time so students can socialize in a less formal setting.”

Ms. Leca also spoke about how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the events the link crew could host. “We have also tried to offer a variety of events. As with many activities, we are slowly returning to our pre-pandemic programming and balancing all our resources.”

Finally, she explained how she hoped this event would allow the grade 9s to make more friends. “We hope that grade 9 students can make new friends, ask any questions, or receive support from senior mentors, have fun, and make positive memories.”

The event was considered a success as the grade 9s left feeling positive just as the movie reached its climax.
