At the very heart of the article you are currently reading are two very dedicated students: Ishaan Sooch and Krittika Bhateja, the Managing Editors of The North Star. From writing to photography, they do it all and more while keeping everyone organized and in check.

If you were to walk in on a meeting, you may catch these two goofing off in front of the camera for social media, or hard at work making sure the paper has timely launches. As Managing Editors, their job is to make ideas for articles so that each launch has a variety of articles, to make sure everyone actually writes those articles, and then to go in and edit each and every single one. When an important article doesn’t get written, the two take it upon themselves to finish it before the launch. Ishaan, specifically, is very passionate about sending threatening emails, reminders, and tracking when everyone gets articles done–down to the last minute.

While they spend a minimum of five hours a week on newspaper related work, neither of them express any interest in journalism as a career and state that they simply joined the club for Mr. Chagani.

Outside of the Newspaper Club, both Bhateja and Sooch serve the community in their own ways. Bhateja is a warrant officer in army cadets where she mentors junior cadets and Ishaan “is batman.” As for hobbies, Bhateja expressed interest in pursuing forensic science and walks her dog, Bubbles, three times a day. Sooch didn’t express interest in anything because he was playing Clash of Clans during the interview but he mentioned being in DECA.

To end off the interview both were asked to give words of advice.

“YOLO” – Krittika Bhateja

“Avoidance is not a solution” – Mr. Alves (via Ishaan Sooch)
